Affiliate Marketing 101: An Intro to Affiliate Marketing
Welcome to Affiliate Marketing 101. This article is to help those who know nothing about affiliate marketing but want to get started. Before I did any research into making money online, I hadn’t a clue what affiliate marketing was. In fact, I wasn’t even sure what the term ‘affiliate’ meant. Well, don’t worry if you’re in the same boat as I used to be, because I’ll try to make this explanation as simple and clear as possible.
Affiliate Marketing is basically the meat and potatoes of making money online. If you ever see those sites where the online entrepreneurs boast about how they are making tens of thousands a month and they have pictures posted of their daily income charts; chances are they are doing some sort of online affiliate marketing.
It basically works like this. You sign up with a company that offers an affiliate program and you will receive an affiliate ID. When you pick a product you want to promote, they will give you a special URL to their site with your affiliate ID in it. Now, whenever someone clicks on your special URL and buys the product from that site, you get you get a commission of the sale.
It’s really that simple. For example, you could sign up with say, Amazon’s Affiliate program and get your affiliate link for a particular book you liked. Now, if you wanted you could email a friend recommending they buy this book, and at the bottom of the email you include the link. If your friend clicks the link and buys the book then you get credited with a percentage of the sale price!
The best part about affiliate marketing online is that you don’t have to actually own any products. You also don’t have to bother with credit transactions, returns and customer service. Your only role is to help people find what they are looking for, and point them in the right direction.
