How Much Money Can You Realistically Make With Yuwie?

In case you were unaware, there’s a new social networking site called Yuwie that will pay it’s users a portion of their advertising income. Think of it as a Myspace or Facebook clone but you get paid to use it.

While the percentage they pay to you is very small, they do have a referral system that allows you to get paid a percentage for every person you refer as well. Below I have taken a screen cap of my account showing the the number of levels and the payment percentage for each one.

Yuwie Earnings

As you can see, I have just recently joined so I don’t have many pageviews or referrals yet. But lets project some realistic figures assuming regular usage and project the income based on the shown levels.

I would say the normal active user logs into a social network site at least once per day to check their messages, friend requests, notifications, etc. We’ll roughly say that they generate 30 pageviews per day between people viewing your profile and you viewing other pages. So that equals approximately, 900 pageviews a month or so. Why not round it up to 1000 pageviews a month to make it easier.

According to January’s RSR in the image, Yuwie gets paid 45 cents from advertisers for every 1000 pageviews. You get 10% of that, so you get paid a whopping 4.5 cents for your month’s usage. Okay, well that totally sucks, but lets re-examine when we bring in some potential referrals.

Let’s say you can convert 10 of your friends from Myspace or Facebook to join Yuwie. Level 2 also gives you 10% of their page views. Let’s also assume they are all regular active users who also generate 1000 pageviews a month. So, 10 users x 1000 page views a month gives you 10,000 pageviews at 10% each. Now you’re getting 45 cents in addition to your own 4.5 cents! 49.5 cents for a month, WOW!

The power of multi-level marketing though is that things increase exponentially as you move down the chain. So, if you’re 10 friends each refer 10 of their friends, you get another 10% of those pageviews (level 3). Now you’re looking at 100,000 page views a month from level 3 and 4.5 dollars a month.

The same thing progresses down the chain, except levels 4-7 give you only 4% and then levels 8 and 9 are back to 10%. If you’re lucky to make it down to level 10, you get 30% of those pageviews. Herein lies the problem with MLM marketing - you basically no control of your referrals levels beyond the 2nd level. Also, I’m sure people are not going to be as active if they are the unlucky ones near the bottom of the chain.

Just for fun though, lets continue down our hypothetical chain of referrals assuming each referral gets another 10 to join. At level 4 now, you will have 1 million page views (1000 referrals x 1000 pageviews each). That’s $4500 in revenue for the month which you get a 4% cut at - $180! Not bad.

The good news is that at roughly half a million users, Yuwie’s user base is still in it’s infancy next to Facebook (80 million) and Myspace (250 million). That basically means that there’s a lot of referral potentials if you’re one of the early adopters. And even if you’re not getting paid a whole lot, at least you know that the users are getting a share of the pie, rather than facebook and myspace keeping it all to themselves.
