Data Entry and Typing at Home Scams

I see a lot of websites popping up that claim you can work from home by typing out some forms or doing data entry. Some of them will claim you can work for just 30 minutes and make up to $1000 a day from home. So are these at home jobs really too good to be true?

In short - the answer is yes. Although with the information they provide, you can potentially make that kind of money, the way they present their information package is VERY misleading. So while they aren’t total scams, you probably will find it’s not what you anticipated because of one very small but important detail they like to omit - you have to PAY money when you submit these “data entry” forms.

So how do these sites get away with being so misleading and what are they really about? Well, I’ve pulled up one of them as a case study. I won’t mention the URL here, but basically the site is pitched as a typing at home job.

Just so you know right off the bat, you won’t be working for any company that needs you to type for them at home but instead what you will be doing if you sign up on these sites is starting your own affiliate marketing business.

On the front page of this site it mentions this:

When you type data and submit PPC forms you will be helping companies spread the word about their products.

You see how they use the acronym PPC to fool the unknowing? What PPC really stands for is “Pay-Per-Click,” and in a nutshell, this means that the ad you create will show on search engines and you will be paying every time someone clicks on one of these ads. Now, if that click generates a sale for the product you are promoting, you get a commission off that sale. As long as what you pay in clicks, is less than the commission you receive, you will be making a profit. This my friends is what is called “Pay-Per-Click” affiliate marketing.

As long as you realize that element, there is nothing wrong with the methods provided in these websites. I do quite a bit of PPC affiliate marketing myself and it generates $100’s a day in profit pretty much on autopilot. So the claim that you can make lots of money at home with very little effort is actually true, although it’s not as simple as it is presented. It actually took me over a year before I was actually making a profit instead of losing it.

So when you see those fancy graphs on the “typing at home” and “data entry” websites showing how much money per day they are generating, just remember that they are also spending money to get those numbers.
