Microsoft Adcenter Releases Content Ads

Today, Microsoft Adcenter has released its content ad network which is available to US Adcenter advertisers. The version being released is still in beta, so except to find plenty bugs seeing is that it is a Microsoft product after all.

So what does this all mean? Well it looks like they have finally launched the Adsense equivalent for Adcenter advertisers. It certainly will help increase the exposure of your Adcenter ads which always receive much fewer impressions in comparison to Google and Yahoo’s advertising programs.

Fortunately they include the option to set separate bid prices between the search and content ads. I notice that you actually have to bid much higher on keywords in Adcenter to get a comparative ad placement that you would get in Google Adwords for a lesser price. If you weren’t allowed to separate your search and content bids, you would end up paying a lot of money on much less targeted traffic.

If you are a website publisher, this will give you another option for putting contextual-based text ads on your site. If you ever get banned from adsense and/or Yahoo publisher network, you will have a 3rd option with the new Microsoft content ads. I guess it never hurts to have plenty of options.
